This article details the setup of our Check-Ups informal assessment mode, which allows you to gather fine-grained detail about student attainment in over 100 SPAG curriculum skills and objectives.

The latest Ofsted guidance review of evidence in English advocates narrowly-focused, targeted tasks to be used for formative assessment.

More useful formative tasks could [...] include specific practice activities, focused on areas where pupils need to improve, such as specific spellings or learning to use particular punctuation. The narrow focus in these tasks means that the teacher can identify precise knowledge gaps and misapprehensions. ~ Ofsted

Our new custom feature (Check-ups) is designed for this purpose, allowing teachers to set short quizzes based around specific objectives.

To use it, head to Check-Ups in your dashboard:

Choose from a range of SPAG categories:

Choose which specific objectives you want to include, and the difficulty level of the questions.

You can select between 4 and 20 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) per objective. These will be delivered in a mixed order from our banks of 1000s of questions. Choose a deadline, then the Check-Up will be set for your students. They will receive a notification in their dashboard, and by default they will be required to complete the Check-Up before free access is reopened (this setting can be changed on the class page if you prefer).

The Check-Up will be marked automatically, and results are served to you in a simple table format, allowing you to see strengths and weaknesses at-a-glance, broken down by objective:
